IS Standard Size — Zero Guesswork

Modular Bricks — Standard Size, Easy Coursing

Modular bricks are made to the exact 190×90×90mm size set by IS specifications, so with a standard mortar joint every course adds up to round, predictable measurements. Less cutting, less mortar wasted, easier for masons to plan a wall around. Starting at ₹6/piece.

Standard Modular Bricks

Our modular brick is made to the exact 190×90×90mm size specified in Indian building codes. Add a standard 10mm mortar joint on each side and every brick occupies a clean 200×100×100mm module — which is why architects can plan wall lengths and heights in round numbers instead of odd fractions.

  • Size: 190×90×90mm (IS standard modular size)
  • With Mortar Joint: 200×100×100mm module
  • Compressive Strength: ≥105 kg/cm² (suitable for load-bearing masonry)
  • Water Absorption: Under 18%
  • Mortar Saving: Reduces mortar wastage from odd-sized coursing
  • Best For: Standard load-bearing masonry, residential and commercial construction

What Are Modular Bricks?

Modular bricks are clay bricks made to the exact size defined for masonry construction under Indian building codes: 190mm × 90mm × 90mm. That's not a random number — it's chosen so that when you add a standard 10mm mortar joint on the length, width and height, the brick occupies a clean 200×100×100mm block of space. Four bricks laid end to end plus their joints come out to exactly 800mm. That kind of round-number coursing is what makes a modular brick genuinely easier to build with.

On a site using odd-sized or hand-moulded bricks, masons constantly adjust joint thickness to make a wall come out to the planned length or window opening — which wastes mortar and creates uneven joints. With modular bricks, wall lengths, door and window openings, and floor heights can all be planned in even multiples of the brick module, so there's less cutting, less adjustment and less material wasted on-site.

When should you choose modular bricks?
Choose modular bricks for any standard load-bearing masonry construction — residential homes, low and mid-rise buildings — where the architect's drawings are based on standard coursing. If your project follows IS building code dimensions, modular bricks are the brick that was designed for exactly that.

Good to know: modular bricks carry a compressive strength of ≥105 kg/cm², on par with our solid bricks, so they're suitable for load-bearing walls in multi-storey construction, not just partitions.

Key Features of Our Modular Bricks

📏

Exact IS Standard Size

190×90×90mm, checked against IS specifications on every batch. What's on the drawing is what shows up on site.

🧮

Round-Number Coursing

With a standard mortar joint, walls, openings and floor heights all work out to even multiples of the brick module — less on-site recalculation.

💰

Less Mortar Wasted

Predictable joint thickness across the whole wall means masons use mortar efficiently instead of over-filling gaps to make odd-sized bricks fit.

💪

Full Load-Bearing Strength

≥105 kg/cm² compressive strength — strong enough for load-bearing walls in multi-storey buildings, not just partitions.

Faster for Masons

Less time spent cutting bricks or adjusting joints to fit a wall length means faster laying speed and fewer errors on site.

💧

Weather Resistant

Water absorption under 18% and kiln-fired hardness. Built to handle Indian monsoon and summer heat without degrading.

🔥

Fire Resistant

Natural fired clay doesn't burn, giving modular brick walls solid fire resistance as part of the structure itself.

📋

Matches Architectural Drawings

Most Indian architectural plans are dimensioned around modular brick coursing, so using this size avoids awkward conversions during construction.

Where Modular Bricks Work Best

Modular bricks are the general-purpose choice for standard construction — here's where they fit best.

🏠

Residential Homes

The standard brick for independent houses and villas, where walls are planned around standard door and window openings from an architect's drawing.

🏢

Low & Mid-Rise Buildings

Full load-bearing strength makes modular bricks suitable for the main structural walls of apartment blocks and commercial buildings up to several storeys.

📐

Standard Masonry Construction

Any project following IS-code dimensioned drawings benefits directly, since the brick size matches what the drawing already assumes.

🏗️

Contractor-Led Projects

Contractors managing multiple sites prefer modular bricks because coursing calculations stay the same from project to project — less room for error.

🏫

Institutional Buildings

Schools, offices and government buildings built to standard masonry codes use modular bricks as the default structural brick.

🧱

Extensions & Additions

Adding a room or floor to an existing structure is easier when the new brickwork lines up cleanly with standard coursing dimensions.

What is the exact size of a modular brick?

+

190mm × 90mm × 90mm — the standard nominal size set for masonry construction under Indian building codes. Add a 10mm mortar joint on each side and the brick occupies a 200×100×100mm module, which is why wall lengths, openings and floor heights all work out to round numbers when you build with modular bricks.

Can modular bricks be used for load-bearing walls?

+

Yes. Modular bricks carry a compressive strength of ≥105 kg/cm², the same as our solid bricks, which makes them suitable for load-bearing walls in multi-storey construction as well as standard residential masonry. They're the default brick for:

  • Load-bearing walls in homes and apartment buildings
  • Standard masonry construction following IS-code drawings
  • Both internal and external structural walls

How many modular bricks are needed per square foot of wall?

+

For a standard 190×90×90mm modular brick with 10mm mortar joints:

  • Half-brick (90mm thick) wall: ~11–12 bricks per sq.ft
  • Full-brick (190mm thick) wall: ~22–23 bricks per sq.ft

Add 5% for wastage and breakage during handling. Use our WhatsApp quote service for a precise quantity estimate for your project dimensions.
